Leadplant is a characteristic prairie shrub in our region. It grows best where it can develop deep roots such as on well drained sand or sandy loam. Its gray-green foliage is beautiful in mixtures. If cut back to the ground in the autumn, it will resprout vigorously the following spring and flower profusely in the summer.
